Nan Knows – Privacy

The short version: What you tick in your pantry, your favourites and your ratings stay on the phone. There is no account, no server of ours and no AI in the app: every recipe comes with the app. Ads are optional videos you choose to watch. There is nothing to buy.
What the app keeps, on your device only
- The ingredients you ticked, and whether you have salt, pepper and oil or butter.
- Your favourite recipes, your star ratings, how many times you cooked each recipe, and which secret tricks and black book recipes you opened.
- When you last opened the app (so Nan can say good morning, or ask where you've been).
- Settings such as Nan's voice and the piano music.
Uninstalling the app, or clearing its data, deletes all of that. "Clear my pantry" in Settings empties the pantry at any time.
Optional ads
Nan offers a short video to hear her secret trick for a recipe or to open a page of her little black book. You never have to watch one, and every recipe can be cooked without them. When you do, Google AdMob shows the video and may use its own advertising identifier, as described in Google's privacy policy. In Europe and the UK the app asks for consent before a personalised ad. There are no banner ads.
What the app doesn't have
- No account with us, and no server of our own.
- No camera, microphone, contacts or location.
- No in-app purchases.
- No analytics or crash reporting of our own.
Food safety and allergies
The recipes are simple home cooking. Always check your labels if you have allergies, cook meat and fish right through, and take care with hot oil and sharp knives. Nan will remind you, loudly.
Children
Nan Knows is a cooking helper for teenagers and grown-ups. Cooking involves heat and knives: children should cook with an adult.
This website
This page on filipsworkshop.com is hosted by Cloudflare, and its fonts come from Google Fonts, so your browser contacts Google to load them.
Questions, or to delete your data
Everything the app keeps is on your phone: uninstall the app or clear its data to delete it.
